Four Colours To Add To Your Isolation Wardrobe
Since training as an image consultant with colour me beautiful in 2011, I have been passionate about helping women unlock the secret to selecting colours to wear that make them look and feel amazing.
Wearing the right tones and combinations of colours next to your face can have a transformational effect resulting in glowing skin, sparkling eyes and the appearance of a more youthful complexion. I will never get bored to seeing my clients’ faces (literally) light up when they see how incredible they look in the colours from their palette.
More recently I have researched and increased my knowledge of the psychology of colour, that is, the study of colour as a determinant of human behaviours. The theory fascinates me and I have been weaving my learnings into my Virtual Colour Analysis sessions over the past few weeks to allow my clients to really harness the power of colour, enabling them to positively impact both their own mood as well as the mood and perceptions of those around them.
Today I’m taking you through four colours that I would recommend adding to your lockdown wardrobe to help elevate your mood, increase productivity, promote restfulness and aid concentration…
Red
If you’re feeling lethargic or low on energy then red is the perfect colour to reach for. Red is connected to the body because you actually have a physical reaction when you see this colour (your heart rate increases) giving you an instant boost. It also conveys courage and warmth - great messages to send over that Zoom conference call if you want to command attention.
Blue
Blues are very soothing and relate to the mind as they affect us mentally rather than physically. Strong, vibrant blues promote clarity of thought whereas lighter shades of blue convey calm and concentration. This makes shades of blue great to wear when working or to have as interior colours in your home office.
Yellow
One of my all-time favourite colours, yellow affects your emotions when you wear or see it, and is one of the strongest colours psychologically as your reaction will be emotional. Conveying optimism, friendliness and creativity, wearing yellow can also boost your self-esteem making perfect if you’re struggling in this area too.
Green
Green strikes the eye in such a way that no adjustment is required, making it a very restful colour. Due to its strong associations with nature, green conveys balance, peace and universal love. One of the most fascinating things about green is that it taps into our psyche on a primitive level; when there is lots of green around us this signifies plentiful and well nourished land, reassuring us that all is well with the world and there is no danger of famine. Personally, I love to use green in my bedroom to promote calm and restful energy.
I’d love to know which colours you’ve been drawn to during lockdown, have they changed from the shades you would usually gravitate towards?
