Dress For You Not For Them

Fashion is one of the few things in life that we can rely on to always be about self-expression. No matter how boring and trend-focused fashion can be, it’s something that we can use to express ourselves in any way that we like. So if we’re wearing a slogan sweatshirt that sums up your mood or clashing colours that people would define as “a little too crazy” for them, what we wear says a lot about about how we see ourselves and how we want others to see us. After all, fashion is the ultimate form of self-expression!

However for many of us the fear of other people’s judgement can stop us from truly expressing ourselves. Not having the confidence to rock what you want to wherever you want to can be pretty limiting especially if deep down you feel like Carrie Bradshaw! So in this post, we’re going to share some ideas about how you can wear what you want and stop caring about the opinions of others.

Stop looking at fashion magazines

Did you know that one of the best ways to boost body confidence is to actually stop looking at fashion magazines? Sure, they are a fantastic way to get ideas and learn about the latest clothes from the biggest brands. Just don’t get too caught up looking at the models in the photographs and their picture-perfect bodies.

After all, most pictures in these publications are heavily edited to make them look absolutely stunning. They are probably just as beautiful in real life, but removing any impurities in their pictures and editing their figure is more common than you think. Instead of focusing too much on what others look like, you can instead focus on your own clothes and learn to love yourself.

Look at the smaller fashion stores for ideas

Smaller stores are often a lot more adventurous with the kind of clothes they offer. There are some fantastic options such as retro fashion clothes, movie-inspired outfits, and even fashion from different countries. Exploring all of these options is a great way to find something that really connects with you and allows you to explore your personal tastes.

Don’t focus too much on the clothes that everyone else is wearing or the big-name brands that everyone talks about. Sometimes, finding a special fashion designer or store that resonates with you is a far more liberating and enjoyable fashion experience than just following what everyone else wears.

Wear what makes you comfortable

At the end of the day, you should wear what makes you feel the most comfortable. Even if you really love a piece of clothing and its design, you shouldn’t wear it if you don’t feel comfortable in it. However, it’s worth keeping in mind that sometimes you need to break out of that comfort zone to truly discover your personal fashion tastes and develop a stronger sense of confidence that will help you express yourself through your clothing.
