This week is World Wellbeing Week and as part of the conversation challenging negative body image is high on the agenda for retaining positive mental health. As a brand which champions women’s bodies and promotes self confidence in women, Assome is extremely keen to get behind this extremely important topic.  It is a terrible truth that 1 in 8 adults surveyed by the Mental Health Foundation felt suicidal because they felt so unhappy with how they looked.  It is Assome’s mission to help women feel better in the skin they’re in. Sadly social media has been presented as having a worrying impact on mental and physical wellbeing which is one of the reasons Assome believes it’s so important to have a platform which celebrates the female form in all shapes and sizes, therefore in light of it being Mental Health Awareness week, Assome is offering top tips on how to learn to love your body.

1.      Stop avoiding your body

This week try and look at your body as much as possible.  If you are prone to avoiding mirrors, stop and check yourself out.  Do not focus on certain parts of your body but look at yourself as a whole- you may find you actually like what you see!

2.     Stop checking

Whilst some people avoid their body completely others over check their body, analysing and scrutiny at any opportunity. If you are the type of person to do this, it is time to stop checking your body and instead check your negative behaviour, and slowly cut it out of your lifestyle.

3.     Stop comparing

Constantly comparing yourself to others is a downward spiral.  Once started it can be extremely hard to stop.  Next time you find yourself comparing yourself to another person think about the following: is it a realistic comparison? Does comparing yourself make you feel better? What could you say to yourself which would be more positive? Would you talk to your friend the way you are talking to yourself?

4.     Separate feeling bad from feeling fat

Many people find it hard to separate bad feelings from those of feeling fat.  If you are this type of person you may regularly blame a bad day or a bad experience on your body.  This is extremely bad for body positivity and can lead to you hating everything about your body.  Instead, try and identify the real reason which you had a bad day, or a bad experience and separate it from your body image.

5.     Practice self-acceptance

Having a negative body image is like having a negative critic constantly telling you nasty comments in your head.  This critics job is to make you feel bad about your body and yourself.  There are many cognitive techniques which are extremely effective to rid your head of this negative critic.  Take time to identify this critic and change how you talk to yourself.

Although the producer of anti cellulite products and treatments, Assome’s ethos is about about promoting self love and enhancing what nature gave women, curves and all, not about changing the body through plastic surgery etc.  As a beauty brand they believe it is their duty to talk about these issues as so many other companies are only showing one body type in their marketing and advertising resulting in a rise in body negativity. Assome work to improve skin condition so you can feel body confident no matter what your shape or size.

There is a huge amount of pressure on women to look a certain way in this day and age, with social media, marketing and advertising adding to this pressure.  This has lead to an increase in the number of women feeling negatively about their bodies.  For this reason as a women’s beauty brand we do not want to push one aesthetic onto our consumers, instead we believe that every body is beautiful no matter its shape or size.  Our product was created to enhance women’s bodies and promote self love. At Assome it is our mission to make all women feel comfortable with their body and combat this horrific epidemic of negative body image.Managing Director of Assome -  Małgorzata Trebinska
