This #selfcareseptember we want to chat all about mindful drinking!

The pandemic has enlightened many of us to the importance of self-care and its effect on our own wellbeing. Now that life is starting to return to normal, we should be looking to bring the benefits of self-care with us and apply it to our lives going forward. One of the ways to do this is through mindful drinking.

Mindful drinking is all about awareness and being present when making your choices. This could be choosing to try a non-alcoholic cocktail when you’re at the bar, or drinking a bottle of water between drinks to ensure that you’re hydrated and don’t go over your limit.

Camille Vidal, La Maison Wellness founder and Harrogate Spring’s Mindful Drinking Ambassador explains that “Mindful drinking isn’t about drinking alcohol or abstaining, it’s about becoming aware of our drinking habits and finding the balance that works best for ourselves; for some that means sobriety and for others moderation, but it always means drinking better and more mindfully with better ingredients, less alcohol and more awareness!”

Camille is a passionate advocate of mindful drinking and is on a mission to help everyone live like a healthy hedonist! We asked Camille for her top tips for people wanting to start their mindful drinking journey!

1. Become aware of your drinking habits

Awareness is key. So often drinking is a default and we don’t pay attention to our drinking habits. By bringing awareness and starting to understand why we drink we can make positive changes and we also appreciate it more when we do decide to drink (if we do decide to drink!)

2.          Hydration is KEY!

Having a glass of water before ordering a drink gives you the time to figure out if you want to go alcohol-free or have something alcoholic. Make sure you have water next to your drink and have one glass of water between each order. My favourite tip is to place a bottle of water on my bed to remember to hydrate before I go to sleep after a night out!

3. Question the drinking culture

Alcohol is so embedded in society but it’s time we question-and dare I say it-challenge this. We don’t have to imbibe alcohol to have a good time, to be social or to connect with others. We can if we want too, but it doesn’t always have to be part of the equation and definitely not in excess!

4. Find your balance

There is no one size fits all and I encourage and empower people to find their own balance, this could be removing alcohol, replacing alcohol, or simply reducing alcohol. I want to give everyone the tools to be able to make their own unique recipe and discover their balance.

5. Introduce alcohol free and low alcohol to your repertoire!

You will discover the delicious and exciting world of No & Low where you don’t have to miss out or compromise on flavours!

6. Embrace the Hangover free life!

I’m not talking about sobriety here, I’m talking about never going over your limit, being empowered and being in control so you never have to pay the price the day after!
