Second Hand Styling - Maxi Style
A professional makeup artist, busy mum of two and fashion blogger, Vikki Bolton has a particular penchant for vintage styling and recently took part in Oxfam’s Second Hand September to promote sustainable fashion and challenge the stigma attached to charity shop shopping. We love her eclectic style and are nothing but inspired by her second hand styling ideas. In her guest post for The Fashion Pack she details some of her favourite finds.
“ That giddy, heart fluttery, must have it feeling when I find a hidden, unique, vintage gem in a charity shop is something that often takes over me! I remember going to charity’s shops with my mum when I was a young girl following her around almost embarrassed to be there, thinking here would never be any cool stuff just granny cardigans and blouses……..and then a few years back in a chance charity shop visit, I stumbled across the most amazing Zara coat of dreams for £5.99 and since that day I was hooked!
With my job as a freelance makeup artist i’m often driving to new locations or wedding venues and I love nothing more than finding a little charity shop in village or town and coming home with something fab. It could be an amazing sparkly top or boho dress, a faux fur coat for my 7yr old daughter or a superhero costume for my little boy!
Over the years I’ve found so many amazing things and love it when people ask me where it’s from and I can say “oh this, this vintage piece, it’s from a charity shop!”. Im often greeted with “Really?! or No way!” and thats what i love, challenging peoples ideas about charity shop shopping and second hand styling.
So next time you pass a charity shop have a look in, you never know what hidden gems are in there..”
