Up Level Your Accessories Game

Accessorizing should be a lot of fun. After all, adding little trinkets to your body and dressing the way you want is empowering and stylish.

But do you ever get the feeling that your accessories are a little bleh?

If you do, you’re not alone. In fact, it’s something that practically every fashionista encounters at some point in her life. The same bag and shoes combo again? No thanks.

In this post, we take a look at how you can up level your accessories so you can keep reinventing your wardrobe throughout the year.

Carry A Purse

If you want to give yourself a “busier” look, then try sporting a large purse, clutch or bag for the day. The tools you use to carry around your possessions say a lot about you as a person (i.e. what you’re all about) and your particular mission for the day. For instance, choosing a specific type of clutch can put you in the mood for a party, while another bag is perfect for a trip to the beach.

Add Subtle Glamour

It’s a good idea to include subtle glam wherever you can to complete an outfit. In fact, you’re probably doing this anyway. However, there are good ways to do it, and some ways that don’t quite work.

Linking culture to your choice of jewelry can create a sense of travel in your wardrobe. For instance, Claddagh rings are a great way to complete an Irish-themed outfit because of their specific history and charm. You can also use precious stones and pearls for a similar effect. If you’re going for something moodier, choose large metal pendants and medallions. Don’t be afraid to wear big, bold earrings that hang down halfway down the neck.

Make Your Makeup Special

Did you know that you can also accessorize with makeup? You don’t have to stick with the regular colours and shades. Instead, just use general makeup principles to create new colour schemes that really help you “pop.”

What specifically? Well, these days, it is perfectly acceptable to mix multiple different colors of eyeliner and shadow, so long as you get the technique right. For instance, you can add some bronze shimmer to your upper lid and under-eye area and then complete it with thick mascara and cat eyes. You can also make your under-eye area two-tone by adding one color around the tear-duct and another under your bottom lashes.

Go Big On Belts

Going big on belts is a great way to smooth your silhouette and complete your outfit, all while adding a little extra bling.

If you want to elongate your figure, go with a skinner cinch. Fit it around your natural waist - the part of your body that goes in the most (usually a little below the breasts).

Wider belts tend to work best with hourglass frames situated slightly lower than the waist. Hip length belts don’t work particularly well if you have an hourglass figure, so avoid them.

If you do want to wear hip belts, then allow them to fit a little looser than usual.

The way you accessorise an outfit says a lot about you so feel free to experiment and indulge in self expression!
