My Summer Favourites - Get The Look

As we’ve spent the last couple of months in isolation its given me the opportunity to revisit some of my favourite pieces from my summer wardrobe, particularly as we’ve been so fortunate with the weather. As many of you know i’m a huge fan of investing in items that you know you will get the wear out of season after season with many of the following looks residing in my wardrobe for at least a couple of years now and I’ve enjoyed wearing them as much as I did when they were first purchased. With so many of us having to be very careful where we put our money going forward, it’s important to only spend on things that genuinely make you feel good and you know you’ll be able to wear in years to come and so I think its key to not be too trend led but rather choose styles that are well tailored, have a classic print or a vintage feel to ensure they will stand the test of time. I’ve pulled together my favourite looks with similar versions that are still available to shop online now.

The Yellow Playsuit

I bought this little Zara playsuit 5 years ago now, but its classic cut and sunshine colour make it a dependable piece year on year. It’s also great for dressing down with flats for more informal occasions or pairing with heels for something a little more special. Ive found these alternative versions from Boohoo and River Island that will do exactly the same job and will be a savvy investment for your summer staples.

The Blue Floral

This pretty blue wrap dress has been a firm fixture in my wardrobe for a good few years now and it’s definitely one of my most favourite pieces, especially for throwing in the case for holidays. It’s lightweight, so needs little ironing, is a great wrap over shape so always feels like it fits, is versatile enough to be worn for a number of day or night time events and with its royal blue colour can switch between feeling vintage and tropical with interchanging accessories. I’ve found this gorgeous version from Dancing Leopard which has the same qualities and alternatively this slightly more sophisticated version from Whistles.

The Vintage Midi

This Topshop piece is actually a newer purchase as we featured it on The Capsule a couple weeks ago and I loved it! I knew straight away that it would be a good investment as its 1940’s silhouette will always feel timeless and the print perfect for summer garden parties, race days or date nights. The elegant length also makes it a great choice for more formal occasions such as weddings or christenings however the side splits give it an edge of fun for cocktails with the girls. Another lightweight piece, it will also work on holidays given its loose satin fabric. You can shop this actual Topshop dress above alongside a couple of other alternatives from Silk Fred and & Other Stories.

The Statement Skirt

This is without a doubt one of my most favourite and versatile pieces in my wardrobe. Although I primarily wear it in the summer, its also really easy to wear in the winter with an oversized blazer or jumper. Polka dots are one of the classic prints I was referring to at the start of this post, just like animal print and breton stripes there’s a timeless feel about each of them that can be refreshed or modernised with trend led accesories or styling. As we’ve seen over the past few seasons, polka dots wether large or small have been seen on everything from skirts, to dresses, trousers to bags and so investing in a piece will allow you to revisit and reinvent it year on year. My skirt was originally from ASOS and its still part of their collection now, however you’ll have to act fast as it tends to sell out very quickly. Ive also found a couple of alternatives from Lily Lulu, & Other Stories and Net A Porter.
