Sustainable Style

Zara Denim Jumpsuit £49.99

With budget’s being slashed in the majority of households across the UK, clothing expenditure is now more of a luxury than ever. However the bonus to this form of austerity is the slow down of fast fashion which in recent years has been having a significant effect on the wellbeing of our planet. With sustainability being one of the major buzzwords to affect the fashion industry as consumers mount pressure on brands to be mindful in their design process, the move away from all things hessian has seen major advancements. No longer does sustainable fashion mean uncomfortable, frumpy clothing that misses in the style stakes, in 2020 its a priority for major brands who are looking to produce their signature quality with the added certification of being earth friendly and so as a consumer we’re seeing beautiful garments manufactured in a greener way. With the likes of H&M and Zara investing in their diffusion lines Conscious and Join Life even the high street brands are now following suit.

Alongside manufacturing we’re also seeing the rise in rental options such Rent The Runway & By Rotation. Renting your clothes out to others via a third party is again not only great for the planet and cuts down on clothes entering land fill but it can also be a nice little side earner for anyone wanting to put their wardrobe to good use. Celebrities including Strictly star and documentary maker Stacey Dooley have also used this option to raise money for charity and with rentals starting at just £5 per day for designer items its a savvy option for those big occasions where you can end up splashing out items that can go on to gather dust until the following year.
