Are Your Health Concerns Impacting Your Self Esteem?

When you think of beauty and what it entails, you probably think of having your hair, nails, and make-up done. Have you ever considered why you enjoy doing each of these activities? The most common reason is that the end result accentuates all of your best features, making you look and feel like a million dollars. Did you know that your health can have an impact on the types of beauty products you use and the habits you develop? Let's take a look at which health conditions may affect your beauty routine and how to avoid them.

Insomnia

Insomnia is a condition in which the body is unable to fall asleep normally at bedtime. This can not only make you feel exhausted, but it can also have a negative impact on your physical appearance. Dark circles under your eyes will appear, wrinkles will become more prominent, and your hair will begin to grey. While foundation, hair dye, and anti-wrinkle cream can be used to conceal these features, you should focus on identifying the source of the problem so that you can address it rather than masking it with cosmetics. Speak with your doctor, who will be able to provide you with a variety of treatments to help you sleep better and figure out why you aren't sleeping.

Psoriasis

Psoriasis is an autoimmune disease that affects the skin and joints, for those who don't know. If you have psoriasis, your beauty routine will change drastically. Gone are the days of lovely smelling creams and low-cost cosmetics. Unfortunately, when certain creams and products are applied directly to the skin, psoriasis flares up, so cheap or perfumed products are out.

The issue here is that your skin's appearance can quickly lower your self-esteem - so what's the solution? When it comes to skin creams, you should only use emollients that aren't scented in any way. Your skin needs certain nutrients and hydration to thrive, and you can do this with regular moisturising, staying hydrated, eating the right foods, and getting plenty of sunlight.

There are also products you can use in the bath or hot tub that will help soak your skin in nothing but goodness. Things like dead sea salts will slow down the progress of psoriasis, so you may want to build a spa at home so you can take advantage of it as much as possible.

Alopecia

Alopecia is a hair loss condition that affects 147 million people worldwide. Unfortunately, there is no known cure for this autoimmune disease, but doctors can help you grow your hair faster so you don't have to deal with the embarrassment that comes with it. While many men and women accept their situation, it's understandable if you're self-conscious about your bald patches or lack of hair. Fortunately, this is where cosmetics and treatments come in handy. For alopecia and hair loss there are wigs available, and for hair loss on your brows, an eyebrow pencil can be used to fill in the gaps.
