Sweat Proof Gym Makeup - Viorela Coman

Having collaborated with brands including Adidas, Burberry and Asos, Makeup Artist Viorela Coman is famed for her signature soft makeup. Its little wonder she’s our go to when it comes to getting a post work out glow that doesn’t gleam as bright as a bad case of sunburn.

“It is possible to wear confidence boosting make-up to the gym, without harming your skin or clogging up your pores.

To achieve a natural finish that is both flattering and will ensure your skin won’t break out, it’s vital to use good quality skincare products. Serums and moisturisers, BB creams and some foundations which are non comedogenic are the best choices to ensure your skin will look great during, and after your sweaty session.

If you workout outside, do not underestimate the power of sun protective creams and sprays that protect your skin from sun damage, pigmentation and premature aging.

My favourites are
Bioderma Photoderm Max Mist, La Roche-Posay Antehelios or Jan Marini’s Physical Protectant SPF 45.

PRE WORKOUT

BASE:
Firstly use a cleanser suitable for your skin type. Light foam cleansers like the one from
Mario Badescu Glycolic Foaming Cleanser, H2O Micellar water from Bioderma, SkinCeuticals’ Simply Clean are my top picks. They will not upset your skin's natural pH balance so that you enjoy a spotless complexion.
To prevent clogged pores that can cause break outs, I also like using zinc-containing mists, such as the
La Roche Posay’s Sero Zinc spray.

Avoid using a rich face or body lotion, this will feel heavy and prevent your skin from breathing, causing blocked pores.

After a proper cleanse, treat your skin to a very light, oil-free moisturizer. I love the following;-
La Roche Posay’s Toleriane Fluide, - Eau Thermale Avène Tolérance Extrême Emulsion for Acne Prone & Sensitive Skin- Sebium range from Bioderma to help your skin stay put while still feeling moisturized.

MAKEUP:
Start with applying the
IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream with SPF 50+ packed with skin-nourishing benefits. Or if you are in a rush, go for the amazing IT concealer in the areas you feel need correcting – another great option is Delilah Take Cover Radiant Cream for medium to full coverage.

If you would like more coverage than a CC cream or concealer provides, and would like to wear a foundation, in the same spirit of breathable skin and gorgeous complexion, use
Oxygenetix Oxygenationg Foundation, or the oil-free foundation from CliniqueFIT Workout Makeup Broad Spectrum SPF. I also love the BB Complexion Rescue Cream by Bare Minerals.

If you can’t go without your trusty mascara, add a coat of Eyeko Yoga Waterproof Mascara that will give you long luscious lashes and prevent the dreaded panda eyes.

For lips, moisture is best especially when air con filled gyms can dry them out. Apply the
La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Lips or Boiron Homeostick Lips Balm or Burt’s Bees Beeswax Lip Balm generously. Avoid any lip products that contain mineral oil and petroleum jelly.

POST WORKOUT

REPLENISH YOUR SKIN:
Following your workout, ensure you shower and cleanse your skin straight after if possible – I love
Origins Zero Oil Deep Pore Cleanser With Saw Palmetto & Mint.

If you feel hot and need to refresh and add a little moisture after all your hard work, I’d recommend using the
Skyn Iceland’s Antidote Cooling Daily Lotion, it has a cooling effect on your skin and will instantly make you feel refreshed and rejuventated.

Red faced? Reach for the
CliniqueFIT Post-Workout Neutralising Face Powder, it will even out your complexion, and the colour correcting powder with neutralise any redness post-work out.”
