Five Wardrobe Staples For Lockdown
As you’ll know from my previous posts, I’m a firm believer in dressing for yourself and now more than ever I think we need to be wearing things that boost our confidence and our mood - misshapen hoodies & baggy joggers just aren’t going to cut it!
When we don’t make the effort to look our best, we definitely don’t feel our best, so rather than sliding into a style rut I’m here with a hit list of five key items to add to your wardrobe right now to help you strut your stuff from the kitchen to the lounge, and maybe even the garden too…
Everyday Dresses
In terms of ease and comfort, a casual dress has got to be top of the list. Look for breathable, lightweight fabrics and a cut that will flatter your figure whilst still providing lots of comfort. I love the colourful print and tie waist of this dress from Baukjen, allowing you to adjust the fit to suit your shape. Wear casually at home with trainers or flat sandals and then dress up with wedges or heels when we’re back out in the real world.
Jumpsuits
If you’re at home with young children then practicality has got to come first.
A jumpsuit is the perfect Spring/Summer solution if you’re running around after little ones all day and Free People perfectly combine comfort and style with their Homecoming One Piece which is available in a choice of three different colours.
Trainer
I quickly abandoned the idea of shuffling around in my slippers all day after realising how much they (a) ruined my outfit and (b) made me feel lethargic. I now put on ‘proper’ footwear each day, usually trainers.
I’ve recently purchased my first pair of Woden trainers from Moo Boutique Yorkshire and cannot tell you how comfortable these beauties are. They’re available in a range of colours so even if you are in a simple outfit they’ll give you a pop of colour (and a literal spring in your step!)
Loungewear
I have been advising my clients to compartmentalise their days and their wardrobes during lockdown to ensure they don’t end up in activewear from morning until night.
Personally, I usually work out in the morning and will then shower and change into my ‘day clothes’ straight after. On days when I just want to be super comfortable I have a couple of pairs of leggings that I class as lounge wear (not to be worn to workout in!), that I can reach for.
These patterned leggings from H&M look great with a simple white tee or sweatshirt as do this leopard print pair from Sweaty Betty. There’s nothing wrong with being ultra comfortable right now, just do it stylishly!
Culottes
Another go-to of mine for comfortable bottom halves are culottes.
This wide-leg style are not only super flattering on most body shapes, they’re also incredibly versatile. The perfect alternative if you’re sick of the sight of your jeans; wear with t-shirts, vest tops or jumpers now and then dress up with a pretty blouse and heels once you return to work.
This floral cropped pair from Mint Velvet are the ultimate in relaxed glamour.
